Say what they did, not "thanks"

Once a day, name one specific thing your partner did. "You handled the school call. I noticed."

In a two-week diary study of couples, on days one partner felt grateful for something the other did, both of them felt more connected the next day. In a later lab study, what mattered was whether the partner on the receiving end felt understood and cared about by the thank-you; when they did, relationship quality was better six months later. Specific beating generic is inferred from that, not tested head to head. Evidence: decent

Specific is the whole trick. "Thanks for dinner" is noise. "You made the thing I like on a day you were wrecked" is the hack.
